Ride to Ladhak

Part 1 - CONVINCING

Are you crazy? Are you out of your mind? Meet me if you come back alive. Your folks will kick your ass if you ask for permission to ride to Ladhak. Hahahahahahahaha. Just a few of the replies I got when I told my friends about my plan to ride to Ladhak on my Royal Enfield Machismo in June. I don’t know what kind of reactions were these, scared or cynical about me riding to Ladhak even when I told them that hundreds or probably thousands of bikers ride to Ladhak every year?
I didn’t know how do I convince my dad coz he is a though nut to crack. Small rides to Goa and all are fine but I knew at the bottom of my heart “Dude its impossible to convince him”. And I was ready with all the possible information to strengthen my side for a positive answer. I was just waiting for the right moment.
I was driving my family to my aunt’s place in our Honda City. While at it, there was a car ahead of me who did not budge even after repeated honking. So finally I had to show my overtaking skills and just then my dad, who was sitting next to me, said “why can’t you enjoy the pleasure of driving slow?” Me who never knows how to hold back his horses snapped back saying “Since when did you start enjoying things?” I know a cruel one from my side but then guess what, this daredevil dialogue of mine which could have got me kicked out of the house proved to be the best thing I ever did in my life.
After my courageous dialogue my mom who was seated right behind me, smiled and surprisingly agreed with my argument. That’s it, I thought, this is the right moment (Loha garam hai, maar do hatoda). I asked my dad, “when was the last time you really felt like doing something exciting?” And that very instant he knew I was going to bomb him with some weird idea. He plainly looked at me. I told him, “baba, I want to ride to Ladhak on My Machismo”. He looked at me without blinking his eyes and I don’t know if he saw confidence or excitement or mere idiocy in my eyes that without any protests he agreed. F@#$! I couldn’t believe my luck, I pinched myself. I felt like stopping the car at once and dancing but sadly I was on the Eastern Express Highway and my over-excitement could have definitely taken my soul to Ladhak then and there. So I thought of waiting till the time I reached home.
